FKM (Fluorocarbon Rubber)

Fluorocarbon is an elastomers based on fluororubber (FPM, FKM), also known as VITON (registered trade name of Du Pont), which can be used for U-cups, lip seals, packings, wipers and special seals. Its outstanding properties include high resistance to heat, ozone, many chemicals and it is all-weather-proof. FPM is compatible with mineral oils and greases containing sulphur, HFD pressure fluids (nearly all phosphate esters and chlorinated hydrocarbons), crude oil and sour gas. FPM is not resistant to anhydrous ammonia, amines, ketones, esters, hot water and low molecular weight organic acids.

Fluorocarbon combines high temperature resistance with excellent chemical resistance. Excellent for use with alcohol and aromatic fuels and highly resistant to ultraviolet light and ozone. This material is not recommended for use in low temperatures or in aircraft hydraulic fluids. Temperature range is -20° to +400° F.

FPM offers excellent permeability and compression. It doesn’t degenerate when exposed to UV light, ozone, acids, and diesel. When using this material, the process of aging of the seal is slow as well. They are extremely flexible in hot as well as sub-zero temperatures. Due to these properties, FPM seals are widely used in automotive applications, especially in fuel supply components and related applications.
